1.6 Questions: Australia's Climate and Vegetation

1. Climate is the pattern of weather that is expected in a particular place, based on the experience of the previous 30 years. Where is weather is the actual temperature and and the rain, sun etc of each day.

2. Because the Earth receives more of the Sun's energy at the equator than at the poles so temperature are highest at the Equator and decrease as latitude increases.

3. Australia is affected by high pressure with low pressure in the north during the summer which brings dry, settled weather and in the south during the winter which brings unsettled weather.

4. Oceans influence climates by currents nearer the poles bring cooler conditions and currents nearer the Equator brings warmer conditions.

5. The influence of relief on climate As altitude increases, air becomes thinner and is less able to absorb and retain heat.

Predicting the Weather: Exchange Student from Cyprus

Hi Felix

When you arrive in Sydney, Australia the weather he will be cold as we are heading into our Autumn and Winter. So generally pack warmer clothes such as jumpers and long pants i.e jeans and tracksuit. I know it is not what you are use to as Cyprus is usually always warm and the humidity is usually always high so I guess you wear shorts, t-shits and thongs everywhere. But I would bring a few t-shits and shorts as the weather can get quite warm some days.

You may also want to bring a beanie and thermals as we are going to Thredbo in May and although it is only near the beginning of Winter it can still get quite cold at night and in the mornings.
