2.1 Questions- Natural Hazards in Australia

1. When the forces of nature combine to become destructive including tropical cyclone, storms, floods, bush fires, droughts, earthquake, land slides and tsunamis.

2. A natural hazard is a natural force such as an earthquake but a natural disaster is when that force affects people.

3. Those related to weather and climate factors and the other is those related to movements in the Earth's crust.

4. Weather and Climate: Drought, flood, heat waves, bush fires, strong winds, storms, tropical cyclones and tornadoes.
Movement in Earth's Crust: Landslides, earth tremors, earthquakes and tsunamis

5. Because these natural hazards that occur in densely populated areas they have more chance of becoming a natural disaster and affecting the population in social, economic and other important ways. But in places that are barely inhabited these natural hazards are not a major worry.

6. It costs thousands of dollars for farmers through the loss of livestock and crops, they then have less money to spend locally and this further has affects on the community.

7. Social impacts- loss of life and stress placed on families and people.
Economic impacts- Loss of income or damage to property
Environmental impacts- Destruction of natural and human environments, death or injury to wildlife

8. They study the nature of and impacts of natural hazards as they may come across these hazards later years which could destroy Australia's unique flora and fauna and also have a awful affect on Australia's economic growth and communities will suffer socially as well.

9. The GIS uses postcodes from around Australia and weather information on past natural hazards to create a map showing where nine hazards can potentially occur and in what impact it would have.

10. a) Tropical cyclone, flood and bushfire
b)Heat waves

11. a) Local councils could be notified by the government when a natural hazard is close to coming and could then notify the local community.
b) State governments would know what their state would be most affected by and so can plan when these hazards would occur.
c) Emergency services would be able to set up notifications to people about the hazards and what to do when they happen. 
d) Insurance companies could give more insurance to people in the more potential natural hazard areas.
